About Mothers in FULL

Motherhood is part of the story. It is not the whole woman.

Mothers in FULL is an independent editorial platform documenting the women raising autistic children—their identities, work, relationships, humor, ambition, anger, pleasure, and the complicated lives they are still living.

Too often, stories about autism flatten mothers into supporting characters: tireless advocates, worried caregivers, or women who have somehow transcended every human need. We are interested in what exists beyond those familiar roles.

Through intimate interviews, photography, personal essays, and reported stories, Mothers in FULL makes room for mothers to be seen without requiring them to be inspirational, endlessly grateful, or particularly well behaved.

We believe honest stories create recognition. Recognition creates connection. And connection makes an isolating life feel a little less solitary.

No mother is only the mother.

About the Founder

Alexis Blaydoe is an artist, writer, designer, and mother raising two autistic sons in Birmingham, Alabama.

She created Mothers in FULL after years spent moving through evaluations, therapies, schools, waiting rooms, and advocacy spaces—and noticing how rarely the mothers she met were asked about themselves.

With a background in fine art, education, brand development, and disability advocacy, Alexis approaches each story with curiosity, humor, and an interest in the parts people are usually encouraged to tidy away.

Mothers in FULL began with a simple question: What becomes possible when we tell the whole story of the mother, too?
